I’ve been approached by hundreds of people over the years who have seen my one-woman show and have a BIG story they want to share…but they don’t. Something in watching me express myself and move people to laughter and tears with my presentation (and writing) moves them to want to act, get into action and make a bigger difference in the world.

I’ve distilled down the Top 3 Reasons People Don’t Share Their Story here in the hopes that if you recognize yourself in one, but really want to share, I can help you to do just that.

  1.  I Don’t Know What Story to Tell

What this often means is there is a fear underneath telling you (kind of screaming to you in that awful inner voice), “Who are you to tell your story?” Rather than address this very real fear they move into confusion, which leads into inaction. Deal with the fear and the confusion goes away.

2. Why Would Anyone Care What I Have to Say?

This reason keeps you playing small while at the same time usually beating yourself up for playing small. You can change this limiting belief in a moment with the right tools. And from my experience- if you feel called to share it is because someone needs to hear what you have to say.

3. I’ll be judged if I share my story

Do you want the good news or the bad news first?

Bad News: You are probably being judged right now or have been in the last 24 hours if you are doing anything big in your life (including parenting, being in an intimate relationship and certainly if you have been seen boldly in a spotlight of any kind- like having a web presence with your business, being active on social media, being interviewed, presenting on stage).

Good News:  If you’re being judged it means you’ve been brave enough to take a stand, be yourself and get out of your comfort zone. Other good news- and this one is a BIG ONE– someone else’s judgment is theirs- not yours. Your job is to not take it on and that puts the power squarely in your hands.

So share away precious…might as well be being your best self today…not later or tomorrow. By sharing your story-since we are all judged anyway, at least you’ll be living a truly purpose driven life. And in my experience that leads to full expression, healing of ourselves and others and sometimes some big pay days.
